Dragon Ride part 754: what are you wearing?

Postby adrian » Fri Jun 22, 2007 11:47 am

The potential range and likely inclemency of the weather for Sunday's ride throws up a dilemma as far as clothing is concerned. Most of you will have seen Linda's dad's email advising the use of "warm wet weather gear"; I think he means that we should wear warm clothing, rather than that the weather is going to be warm as well as wet.

Anyway, I'm going to take him at his word and dress as for a reliability ride -, namely, viz., to wit, etc:

- Long-sleeved base layer
- Arm warmers
- Short-sleeved jersey (ACC, natch)
- Gilet (ditto)
- Bib shorts (ditto)
- 3/4 tights
- Overshoes
- Overshoes for the overshoes
- Thinsulate-type gloves
- Track mitts
- Spare pair of socks
- Rain jacket (in pocket, for use in really nasty stuff only)

How does this compare with what the rest of you have in mind?

I'll most probably wear :

string vest
short sleeved jersey
arm warmers
long sleeved jersey
shorts
knee warmers
winter socks
overshoes
track mitts

If I can find my clear coloured I'll use those - otherwise I won't bother with glasses if it's grim.
I'll carry a lightweight rain jacket and full fingered gloves.

The usual stuff for me really !

If it's raining hard at the beginning of the day I'll probably set off riding with a heavier rain jacket on and wear one jersey less.

Flanders in April was warm and sunny, the Lake District was glorious in May. And it looks like South Wales in June will be grim ! I hope we are wrong !

Ah, a sunny June day in Wales. Fingers crossed none of you will need all this stuff, hard enough to drag yourself up a Welsh mountain anyway let alone weighed down by an extra 10 kilos of wet winter clothes.
