ACC Membership Cards

Postby huw williams » Mon Jul 02, 2007 5:24 pm

These have been produced and provide proof of identity which allows first claim full members to obtain discount against purchases at Geoffrey Butlers and other shops/cycling outlets. They also act as emergency ID cards in case of crashes/accidents etc when riding alone if you wish to use them as such.

200 cards are too expensive and time consuming to package and mail out so you can collect yours in one of two ways;

1) Tour De France Prologue, Saturday 7th July, (RICS) Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors, 12 Great George Street, Westminster

A gathering of Addiscombe glitterati will be meeting here for pre race beverages and you can pick up your card between the hours of 2.30 and 3.30pm. Sign in at the door and head for the bar - there will be tv coverage of the race going on there but RICS is close to the actual course anyway.

2) Those remaining cards not allocated on that day will be left at Geoffrey Butlers sometiome during the following week where you can collect them on proof of identity. Watch the forum for details of when they become available.

These cards are worth having - the more the membership of the club grows the more discounts we will be negotiating on behalf of the club at various shops and suppliers.

More details of the RICS gathering at these threads:

PS: My cat Salem got into the box of paperwork when the cards were being produced so a very few members with 'lucky' paw-printed cards get extra discount :-)

Why Salem :?:

[quote]The Salem witch trials, begun in 1692 (also known as the Salem witch hunt and the Salem Witchcraft Episode), resulted in a number of convictions and executions for witchcraft in both Salem Village and Salem Town, Massachusetts. Some have argued it was the result of a period of factional infighting and Puritan witch hysteria. The trials resulted in the executions of 20 people (14 women, 6 men) and the imprisonment of between 175 and 200 people. In addition to those executed, at least five people died in prison. One man who refused to plead to the charges was pressed to death with rocks (the medieval torture of peine forte et dure, which, if fatal, did not result in forfeiture of property).

Once a fairly common name for a witches 'familiar', and not at all assosciated with the darker side of witchcraft, Salem seems to have fallen out of favour so I thought I'd try and resurect it

It was either that or 'Jones' after the red mackrel tabby in Alien
