I won't be out on the CR this Saturday as I'm attempting the BHF randonnee.

I've only ever managed Eastbourne to Amberley / Winchester to Amberley so the whole lot in one sitting will be an unknown - certainly won't make any time predictions just yet but hoping to go under 10hrs. I would be interested to hear if anyone has already done this.

I'll be sporting my new club jersey as well :-)

Good Luck, it's a hell of a challenge.

I've not done it myself (yet!) but two others in the club have done it in the last few years. I could be wrong but from what I remember the times were in the region of 12-14 hours. (You'll be an expert at opening and closing gates by the end of it.)

I think I saw some of the riders near one of their pit-stops on my way back from Shoreham around 1.30pm Saturday. I was doing this team adventure race and the mtb leg was partly on the SDW. It was pretty dry considering the overnight rain. Quite windy though but you would have had a good tailwind for the SDW.

Marco I think you would have liked that. The canoe was good but it seemed to take forever (2 miles). Then 9.6 miles run along the river, and 11 miles mtb.

Thanks for your concern guys but call off the search party. I got into Eastbourne just after 7pm on Saturday :D
Sorry for no updates but I've been so busy eating and drinking after such an effort.

The whole route took me just around 12 hours. I managed to get lost twice.
It was relentless climbing and I bonked royally at the 90 mile stage. Up till that point I was probably on for 11hrs and feeling great. But it's amazing how quickly things can change.....

The hampshire part was muddy and I struggled to hold a good line with 1.8s. I chose not to wear my new club jersey as it would have got absolutely trashed in those conditions. My favourite part was descending into Alfriston - a real fast long descent with view of the coast line.

There were a few crashes but nothing serious and loads of people on trail changes tubes. Luckily I didn't crash or puncture.

Kept an eye out for you Slyv. Where were you on the route?

You were lucky with the weather it was super for this summer

Are there more ups than south down's?

Go for it. If I can do it in a day you can. It is mostly ups because the profile is sawtooth ie long draggy climbs followed by sharp descents where you have no time to rest, apart from that nice one to Alfriston.
Trick is to take lots of food, tools, spare tubes etc, drink loads and take it steady. Salted peanuts or cashews are good to ward off cramp and give a little protein.
Also break it up into 25 mile sections mentally so you can go along thinking in terms of club runs to the caff rather than 5 miles out of Winchester "Yippee! just another 95 to go".

Because of the wind direction it's better to go from Winchester to Eastbourne. Apparantley it's 11,000ft of climbing.

What I missed on the route is the camaraderie of the ACC club runs - everyone having a good chinwag and sticking together. Everyone was off doing there own thing. I wonder if we could get some agreeables down there at some point.......
