Club Run 28th July

Postby Andrew G » Sat Jul 28, 2007 2:46 pm

Got back to Coulsdon in time to have a very nice espresso to try and wake me up before the club run.

After this morning's efforts I went with Monty's 18s and had a nice spin out to the cafe. Rusper, but no thru n' off for us today.

We picked up Stu towards the end as he'd been fixing numerous punctures this morning. He wound it up and broke off the front approaching the sprint. I decided to give the legs a bit of a stretch and jumped over the gap to sit on his wheel hoping for a nice steady tow.

Fat chance, as soon as I got there he looked back dropped it a gear and jumped again. I did the same and held on just sitting there hoping he'd get fed up but he didn't. On the final run in Stu went again and just as I was about to go Owen, who'd crept up unannounced appeared on my right shoulder. I was a bit boxed and had to ease off for a second, knowing this meant I wouldn't get back to Stu I sat up. Owen carried in and I think ran Stu quite close but I believe the young man got it.

Redhill return and as normal I got carried away. A steady ride went out the window as I started riding harder to stay up the front. From the church regroup I did sit back a bit but hitting the drag started to wind it up and gradually real in a few who were blowing. Caught Alan and we worked together up the rest and down the other side with a good old thrash back to CSS with Steve and Brian.

Bike back in the car, jeers from the coffee culture crowd on their 5th cup of the day  and back to sleep all afternoon. :D

Don't know what Owen was doing as he came from behind so couldn't see him - the boxing in wasn't dangerous in any way it was just that he was on my right side so I couldn't come off Stu's wheel as there was a large immovable object in the way  . Stu and I rode straight and true, but Monty may have been a bit annoyed that Stu and I shot off as it was supposed to be an 18 group and perhaps we should have just sat at the back and kept out the way.
