the ACC Brighton Run..

Postby Brian Nolan » Tue Sep 18, 2007 12:56 pm

hi there,

I missed the club run on Sat as I wanted an extra day off the bike after my accident last week - plus I was worried that I might be put down if I was looking a bit knackered !
I found a route sheet for the ACC Brighton run ( must have been given out this year sometime ? ), and decided to try that on Sunday.. I have been down to Brighton on several occassions with the club but this route was totally new to me.. As soon as you get into Merstham you turn off onto School Hill , and then it takes you to Smallfield, Turners Hill and on to Ditchling - mostly on B roads ..
Well - I just wanted to say what a great route this is .. Most of the roads were really quiet with some fast rolling sections, and a few short steep bits before you arrive at the Beacon and then drop down to Brighton..
I did not do the return leg ( although I am more familiar with this bit ), as I went along to Worthing and then home via Box Hill, Kingswood etc..
full marks to whoever recced ' this many moons ago - its a great ride and one I will def do again & again - pity I found it in the kitchen drawer at the end of summer and not the beginning !
cheers,
brian

Think this was the same route down as the official ride, wasn't it? A nice route.

Hi Andrew,
I missed the mass ACC run to Brighton earlier this year as I was in Plymouth - did you go this way ? I have been down there with Monty & Paul T several times but never went this way - just thought it was an excellent route - def worth repeating..

Hi Brian,
could you post this route on a Google map?
The reason I ask is that although I did the route with the club, I've absolutely no idea where I was half the time and I'd like to do it again on my own sometime.

Cheers
Colin

Hi Colin,

not sure how to do that ? the sheet I have got has a map on it but the route is not really marked as such - just a list of directions .. I could scan it and e mail it ? This must be somewhere on here - on an old post perhaps ?
cheers,
brian

You mean Slugwash Lane towards Ditchling (one of my favourites) and Spronkets on the return (ditto).

Brian, did you go down the long long descent after Sharpthorne?

er, not sure Paul - is that on the return leg ? 'cos I did not come back that way - went along coast to Worthing and then the A roads back to Box Hill .. Saw the Battle of Britain ( whats left of it :( ), fly past at Shoreham ..

No, on the way out - you really must get out more....

Did you follow the lanes up by the River Adur, or take the main road?
