Kasper,

Last month I went out a couple of times, with the "over the hill gang". Well worth doing they next meet on a Thursday at 9.45 at Effingham-nice warm up ride out there. (They meet at the t junction, where there is a bus stop with a wooden shelter)
It was good fun, plenty of miles at a steady pace. Most of the guys, are with South Western and pretty friendly, plus they have an encyclopedia knowledge of the lanes and you usually end up at a good café.

Cheers for the idea Ben, just might do that.

Always more sociable being in abunch than on your own.

Thought of doing Andrew G's Hilly 50 as i have the route but i think your is a better idea.

Cheers,

Kasper

By the way, the "over the hill gang" use the 30MPH signs as you approach Newdigate from the South for the big sprint. There's even a white line painted across the road.

After last nights socialising at the beer circus i didn't make it out in time for the Effingham ride instead i did my usual Box Hill ride along chipstead valley road.

As i got to Dauphin cycles noticed my rear wheel was soft so went in to use their pump. In fact i had a split in the side wall of my tyre and the inner tube was sticking out in the shape of a little boil.

Decided to replace both front and back conti gatorskins with some nice new gold GP 4000's , still conti's of course.

Andy the mechanic was good to talk to and Dave the owner had just got back from holiday. The other two staff Steve and Rowan were both off sick.
Good to see Joe from Bike Plus back in the day who popped in for a few things including some campag tyre levers which i also had to purchase.
Helped me get my new tyres on brilliantly.

Good little shop which has just had a refit although theres more work to do as the unit on the left as you look at it from the road has been turned into an Assos only showroom!!

Had some nice bikes including range of Orbea and of course Colnago including one from eighties which hasn't been ridden since new!

Nice string vest long sleeve undershirts which looked a good buy for this time of year even if thirty quid seems a lot for a string vest!!!!

Spoke to Dave about doing a winter training camp at La Santa in Lanzarote as he'd been there in the past. Said it was a good place to do some training if a bit windy. The islands volcanic so has very little vegetation or trees to shelter you from the wind but then who wants to have it too easy?

Theres a bike week at the beginning of November I'm looking at doing when they've invited a series of ex pro's to run some training camps which hopefully will be at or around my level.

WHat does anyone else reckon to the idea of doing a week of some good hard training miles while everyone else is easing off?

Am i mad to be even contemplating it, or will it give some good results come the start of next season?
Any opinions welcome.
