Ohurougu named as one of the favourites for BBC sports

Postby MJ_1993 » Tue Oct 23, 2007 9:18 pm

She is named as one of the favourites for BBC sports personality of the year.

[quote]
CHRISTINE OHURUOGU 66-1 (23, English, Athletics)
On 11 August, Ohuruogu competed for the first time in more than a year. In the space of a few days she shaved half a second off her personal best and led a world championship 1-2 for Britain with Nicola Sanders.

Is Christine a one-hit wonder?

On the downside, Ohuruogu says she missed three out-of-competition drugs tests through a mixture of forgetfulness and circumstance. She was given a lifetime Olympics ban by the British Olympic Association, which is currently under review.

Since her gold-winning performance in Japan, the Londoner has been beaten three times by American Sanya Richards, who missed the World Championships because of illness.

Back in August, Ohuruogu was 10-1 to be Sports Personality of the Year, but she has been on the drift ever since. It just shows how you quickly people forget - a bit like the woman herself, in fact.

either way its shameful, what about Cav, or Geraint or Wiggo? WHO ARE CLEAN[/b]

Get over it guys. As much of a personality us cyclists have, we'll never win the Sports Personality of the year award.

The UK public is just too fickle.

The fact that this owhoroooooogu woman is allowed in just devalues the whole thing even more in my opinion.

Lewis Hamilton should win, 'I dont want to win by a court case' he said yesterday, good man. 'I want to do it in style on the track'.

but why should she win?

I mean take Adams example of Lewis Hamilton, who has been an absolute legend this year, he has been a british sporting hero, not her.

If winning a gold medal at the WC causes you to get nominated then there should be Victoria Pendleton, Chris Hoy etc. after the awesome display as this years track WC

'I want to do it in style on the track'. - Yeah but you came second Lewis and how many SPOTY's have been runners-up? Too many. Typical of the British attitude of shouting up losers.

Hamilton will win it in future (hopefully in style, on the track and not in a season when there's been so much nonsense surrounding his team's (and other's) antics.

In the meantime give it to someone like James Toseland or Vicky P - someone who's a world champion AND whiter than white

Ah yes, James Toseland, I still remember that nasty crash he had a few years back. Most my family will be voting for him, as my grandad used to race motorbikes etc etc. had a shop etc etc.

I would have voted for Jason Robinson if he was in it, simply on his WC performance, and his achievements despite his upbringing.

Hang on guys. Are you seriously proposing that a F1 driver of all people should get the SPOTY!!!! Thats not sport that's just bloody good fun!!!!
Seriously the guys just having a ball while the guys who look after and develop the car do all the hard work. They are the ones who deserve the recognition, or not as the cheats at Maclaren and Ferrari proved this season.
Overall I think Ferrari deserve the championship more than Maclaren. Lewis was lucky to keep his points after his team was found guilty of stealing the technology from Ferrari. And yet he still managed to lose his seemingly unbeatable position at the top of the Championship table. What a loser!!

My vote for Sports Personality of the Year would go to Jane Tomlinson who manged to complete events most of us able bodied guys can only dream of doing , and she did it all with only a limited amount of time given to live. Now thats truelly inspirational.

I'm with kasper on this one (although I think F1 may be a bit tougher than he thinks) but Jane deserves it 110%

It is, for a start they have no power steering. Secondly you get idiots for team mates. Thirdly the pressure is enormous. Fourthly, if your cars not fast enough you have rely on your tactics. Also, it requires a lot for the driver to listen to the team radio and drive, especially when you consider that men arent meant to multi-task. Also it requires on the spot thinking when in race.
