Bike Fit

Postby HuwG » Wed Jul 09, 2003 10:50 pm

Hi,

I didn't get to the evening at the clubroom, but was wondering what you actually get for your money if you go for the £70 bikefit thing ?

Has anyone out there been through the process ?

Do they work out a set-up for you on several different types of bike eg TT; RR; MTB etc etc

Thanks

I have been through the process. It was 2-3 hours just to set me up on my road bike, but Phil Cavell said that if I popped back with the TT bike, he would do that for free, and it would be much quicker.

What I got for my money was a completely new riding position, and some advice on stretching. Both have been very valuable to me, because I had a long term injury, and the new position and stretching seem finally to have solved it. My new riding position also means less neck and shoulder pain on longer rides, and better control cornering and descending.

All in all I think that it was money very well spent. (I had spent £100s on physio/osteopath, and the injury would not go away.) But I guess a lot depends on whether your position is actually giving you a problem.

I know this is dredging up a long-lost thread, but I have a couple of questions:

1. Is this the BikePark/CycleFit guys? and

2. How much did it cost in the end?

I'm looking to get my position sorted out after all this knee bother.

This is the very same guys, they are noe doing everything from their COvent Garden premises.

I did the whole kit and caboodle about 5 weeks ago. It cost £120.00
They are unsure as to whether or not the Addiscombe deal still exists and therefore gave me the actual wedges and new stem for free. But obviously at their discretion. I think it is something like £30 for just the shoe wedge measuring plus £2.50 per actual wedge then used. And £90 for the position set up. They pretty much insist on doing everything as why alter position if your feet are incorrectly angled etc.

It took 3 hours with me, but it was actually fun. I know have the worlds shortest and ugliest stem ever on my bike but it rides like a dream and just feels so much more sensitive below me.

Well worth doing.

Thanks Steve!

Now that begs the question: is the Addiscombe deal still available? Anyone?

When I saw Phil Cavell at the Cycle 2003 show the we before last he said that the Addiscombe offer would still be on as long as you book in before December.

I've booked myself in for next month, but in the interim I've had a few people (who shall remain nameless) poo-pooh the idea, saying that the CycleFit guys are rubbish. They recommend just getting the LeMond equation for the right saddle position and doing slight adjustments from there.

Should I go to CycleFit?
Should I go to another fitterers?
Should I just LeMond and begone?

My knees and bank balance await your replies.

Personally I think the bike fit was the best bit (also the dearest) and definately not something I would have done if I hadnt just gone mad at the time.

Basically the bike feels more alive beneath me ever since and I guess I just feel more confident in the bike since then. Shorter stem which I knew I needed anyway, slight change in saddle height and position etc.
Yeah you could do it yourself if you are of that frame of mind - I am not!

The wedging has made my knees feel almost perfect on the bike, no more hotspot pain in my feet either. I have heard some say that they have then reverted to pre wedging and still found no difficulty so how worthwhile is it? Well I think I am going to remove one wedge from under my right foot and stick with it. It seems to have worked for me.

Its personal taste, personal opinions etc.
Lets get some more views on this forum, talk more about it.
If you can afford it maybe do it and be prepared to scrap half of what they do later?

Anyway that my tuppence!!

Thanks Steve.

I'm on the fence due to my financial state, which is perilous. I think I'm going to bag it and twiddle on my own. I already have an inkling that adjusting cleat position and float may help ... and several offers of photocopies of the LeMond book have flown in.

I'll keep you advised.
