Clubrun 22 Dec

training group today was a nice quick pace, with 4 of us out, Paul H, Keith, Stu and me.

Paul T towed us all along to redhill nicely at a ver fast 40mph, but didn't fancy climbing the reigate steps, somethings never change, Paul H hadn't had the time to warm up and was in pain trying keep up.

I was on the front doing lots of turns and testing myself to see if I was getting stronger, I seemed to stay there a long time so the answer must be yes.

I attacked early just after newdigate but everyone jumped back on, then we upped the pace a bit up Rusper drag and Keith was avin no more Capt'n.

Hill just after Partridge Lane Paul edged up front and did a strong turn which was hard to pull back.

We all regrouped at the dual carrigeway for a quck through and off all the way to the Cafe, Paul won the sprint ahead of Keith, whilst Stu and I sat up.

Didn't fancy the speed trial SORRY PAUL so just the 3 of us back over box hill.

Stu was really strong on the way back from the cafe and was doing tons of work on the front.

As we started the box hill climb I was up front then just before the first turn stu came round and drove the pace hard, another chap latched on but had a suprise with the pace.

after the second hairpin justa as stu eased up and looked round I attacked and got a big gap, stu sat behind paul but he wasn't firing on all cylinders and the stu had a mission to get back up to me, where I eased up let him on then attacked again to take the climb

good work out today, I'm happy with no pain from my neck, so happy days
:D

Just about to listen to the Snoops hits CD

Top work by Snoop and Huw on the CD, and thanks for the delivery Father Snoopmas.

Another steady 18s on the fixed today which went off pretty much as per. Good to see Toby again after hearing about his off the other week I'd feared he might have done an Adrian "Kruger" to his hand, thankfully just some ligament damage so apart from being a bit sore it's okay. Was also good to see Grant again as he doesn't get on the CR too much.

Did Paul's speed testing and was a laughable last, miles off the mark.
I think I kept a nice slow 1-2 tempo all the way around both laps but on the second one I got held up on a couple of occasions by cars, and not having my brain in this morning didn't speed up at all to take the stoppages in to account. Doh! Hal was amazingly only 5 seconds different on his 2nd lap so scooped 1st place and the biggest share of the kitty.

Thanks for doing this again Paul as it's a good bit of simple fun that anybody can do, would be nice to have some more takers, maybe if we could try it again when it's warmer and people aren't so keen to get going again.

Rode back after the test with Steve, Hal, Grant, one of the many John's in the club, and Ben who was a man on a mission up through Merstham.

Popped in to GBs to get a new chain and bumped in to a guy in blue whose name I don't know (even though he was in my 18s ) . He said he'd come off on the always slippy 90 degree right hander under the trees. Still seemed pretty chipper though so I hope you're okay now you've stopped and nothing's stiffened up  . At least on wet roads you slide.

Have a good Christmas all.

george said it all pretty much.

on the way out i was feeling a bit sluggish, so i limited my turns on the front.

on the way back from the cafe towards box hill i felt back to strength and did loads of work to make up for my lack of work on the way there.

going up box hill george was on the front for most of the 1st straight, then a bit before the 1st hairpin i came to the front and gave it some welly up the next straight to the 2nd hairpin. obviosely by doing this my legs had filled with lactic acid, and the last thing they needed was an attack by george up the outside. before pulling over to let paul do his turn i started to bring back george, i got him to within 25m or so, then pulled over to let paul do some work. paul did about 5 seconds of decent work then slowed to a measly 11mph
i thought he was bluffing so i stayed on his wheel, but this meant george was about 100m ahead of us up the road. so i pulled out from behind paul to up the pace. i looked back expecting him to be on my wheel, but he wasnt so i knew he must have blown up. so i got on the drops and hammered it as hard as i could at about 16-17. i had lots of ground to make up. i slowly started to close the gap, but george was dancing on his pedals like Anton Dubeck. I just got back onto him by the last hairpin, but he attacked again and there was just too much lactic acid in me to sprint after him.

me and george rode hard on the front on the way back, paul was suffering so sheltered.

good training ride

I was with him when he came off but seemed to be ok after a few mins after the shock of takng a spill had gone. We got going again (4 of us) when I punctured after only a mile or so. Quick change thanks to the other 3 and we soon started legging it back.

A good ride out there in the 18's but where did all that cold air and frost come from, still, made for a beautifull sight.

I was fully intending to go with one of the other groups this week - I've had a cold for the last few days, but as soon as Monty shouted "anyone for a training ride" my bike appeared to freewheel itself down to join George, Stu and Paul. Oh well, I told myself if I didn't feel strong I'd drop off and join the following group.

Paul T towed us all along to redhill nicely at a very fast 40mph

Perhaps Paul T could get a van, or at least an estate, then we could do 50mph?

I have to say, it's nice to be back with the club after the Hillingdon malarky. A 90 mile drive to ride round in circles for 50 minutes. By the way, George has got noticably stronger in the few weeks I've been away.

Like George said I was "avin no more Capt'n" on the drag to Rusper. I didn't fancy 100% heart rate, so left the boys to their attacks on the hill.

Michelle and I also brought along an ex-Addiscombe member who lives locally to us - Austen Reed. He was Addiscombe road race champion 22 years ago! Seemed to have a good morning, and to be impressed with the agreeable reception he received.

Didn't realise it was you Sylv. George tried jumping into your slipstream, but you pulled away too fast.

Yep. It was officially a "Retrobikes" ride.

Sylv and I took our Ibises (Ibiii?), Simon took his hardtail Yeti singlespeed in a show of solidarity and the other bikes there included a Pace RC200 and a Bontrager OR racelite.

We met Mr Cushtie and a few other familiar faces at the tower on Leith Hill.

It was a good day.

No one in the club rides at 40mph!

If they do,its downhill all the way.

Fastest tour TT is about 55/56KMH, get real and stop bullin'
