Inner tubes for commuting

Postby Will » Fri Jan 04, 2008 5:09 pm

Owing to what seems like an excessive amount of glass on the streets of London at the moment I'm down to my last inner tube and need to buy some more....

I usually buy them in bulk from Wiggle (£28 for 10 of 700 x 20-28)

Are there any other deals around that I should investigate?

I've been using slime tubes on my commuting (and winter clubrun) bike for a year or so now, with pretty good results. Some larger glass shards cause the tube to lose about 20psi before sealing, but that usually leaves enough air in to get home safely.

Having said that, just watch me have a huge puncture tomorrow, probably in front of everybody at CSS and resulting in a large pool of green "alien snot" slime on the road, a huge tantrum from me, and gales of laughter from everybody who has read this post.

Decathlon sell inner tubes for £1 each.
Actually, it's £2 for 2.
Still a bargain.
They're pretty robust 700x23c jobbies

Panaracer make a kevlar felt liner called Flataway which is excellent. Sticks inside the tyre and works a treat. No p***t***s in 2 1/2 years.
