velibtastic! We were last in Paris in October - great scheme I didn't see much evidence of vandalism - 99.9% of the bikes seemed to be in full working order (well as far as I could be ar5ed to look). I'd like to see something like this come to London.

Also - some kind Parisian had left me my own personalised bike - awwwww innint nice.

They actually look half decent - possibly even club-run-able :)

The bikes are very comfy for leisure riding. Not so good for big distances but that's not their intended use.

But there are a growing number of bike-related accident. People not used to riding are using them and riding like lunatics. You see them on the pavement, one-way streets, everywhere. I have seen, at night, a guy carrying his girlfriend who was sitting (back to front) on the handlebars.

At least they could talk to each other ...

There are actually quite a lot with a problem ... flat tires, broken chain etc. Generally if you see a dock with just one bike left you can bet it's gonna be a broken one!

Also finding free docks to park them can become a problem. My sister had to ride back to where she'd picked the bike as she couldn't drop it where she was going to!

Good afternoon Agreeables :) and there is a bike hire scheme already operating in west London and a few other areas. Check out http://www.oybike.com :) okay it's nothing like the The Velib in Paris but it is a start and I understand that the company is trying to extend the network :) . However, with the current trend of "public services" having to make a profit even at the expense of it's customers or the rest of the business community it could be some time :( .

Have a great evening one and all.

Best wishes and see you all Saturday, both morning and evening. :D :D
