Anyone do this route or know a good fast but safe route? Have looked at London cycling maps but the route is very bitty and seems to take a long time.

I would stick to main roads, get to London Bridge then straight up King William Street, Moorgate, Finsbury Square and over the r'bout to Old Street.
Too great a risk of getting doored on the sidestreets and little escape room.

I drop down through Dulwich and then straight line it through Camberwell to London Bridge. I guess this last bit is the route you mean Dombo, although it is main roads it's the slowest part of my journey as there are so many sets of traffic lights along Camberwell/Walworth Road.

Traffic Jams

Those cycle maps were obviously not designed by cyclists as they dont give any indication of gradients and usually take you down a dead end cul de sac and expect you to clamber over a railway brigde. I commute from Grove Park and avoid Forrest Hill as its usually a grid locked bottle neck. If its any use I do a right in Catford, Ravensbourne road I think and back roads to avoid the traffic, Peckham Rye, left to Honor Oak and down into Camberwell.
