Conti GP4000S bargain @ Ribble

Postby adrian » Wed Jan 16, 2008 1:10 pm

As a footnote to the various recent 'which tyre?' threads, I felt I should point out that you can get the excellent Conti GP4000S at Ribble for £20.95 at the moment. A special offer on Conti inner tubes comes with, as well.

For puncture protection, grip, handling, rolling resistance, looks - every tyre characteristic, basically - my experience is that these tyres can't be beat. I fitted them to my Cannondale in June and haven't had a puncture since. Having had five in seven days on my commuter bike's Hutchinsons (they have been on since last June, admittedly), I felt it was time to step in.

Anyway, that's what I've been doing at work this morning :oops:

There's a reason Ribble are cheap; they're a bunch of useless to**ers.

Last time I ordered from them, I ordered some hubs and rims;
1x 32 hole rim
1x 28 hole rim
1x 32 hole rear hub
1x 28 hole front hub

What arrived was;
1x 32 hole rim
1x 28 hole rim
1x 32 hole rear hub
1x 32 hole front hub

Now, if their wheelbuilder can lace a 28 hole rim onto a 32 hole hub, hats off to him. I'd prefer not to try, so I sent it back.

They sent a 28 hole replacement....
to an address I've not lived at for over two years!

A morning well spent Adrian, especially since I've suffered four punctures in two months on my GatorSkins (compared with none on the Armadillo-clad commuting bike).

Jon, I'll just specify no holes at all and hope they can manage it.

Are those the Conti 4000S Black Chili compound, hand-tooled by Teutonic elves in darkened Bavarian caves?

Well they ain't so great on ice.

About as much grip as a greased piglet.

To be fair I don't think anything grips that well on ice without spikes.
Isn't Greased Piglet on Ice Grip Testing something you see on late night Discovery?

Not when Mrs H is in residence, I'll wager.

A week or so on your own and you're spiralling out of control already :roll:
