Brighton Weekend

Postby mrP(Boonen)VT » Fri May 09, 2008 12:54 pm

Now that I have had my entry back from the National 10 as my time wasn't fast enough  I'm at a loose end on the weekend of 24 and 25 May, and need to get in a few miles so plan to do Brighton and back both days.

Timings:

Saturday 9:00am CSS this will be a pleasant "laney" route and will be extended to guarantee 100 miles in the legs, at a comfortable pace average approx 16-18mph.

and Sunday 8:30 am CSS this will be direct and a bit quicker average 18-19mph as I need to get back.

There's a 42 mile SPOCO on the Sunday if you're looking for a TT.

Can you do the Monday as well, since it's a bank holiday. I'd be up for that

Paul, I have a small group leaving EG at 8am, we will be taking it pretty easy, but intend to do a 100 mile loop, taking in Brighton along the way. If you can get to EG for 8am then pm me and I will send you my address which is the meeting point. If you get here a few minutes early I may even have a brew on.

If any others are interested feel free to join in, so far there are 4 of us. It will be steady, one of the guys going has not done a 100 before so we don't want to kill him off.

Cheers

Marek......

Thanks Marek, but that sounds like a bit of effort to me....!!!!!!!!!!

I have arranged to leave CSS at 9:00am, so will get to Brighton around 11:30/12:00 if you want to meet us there - we will be on the lower level by the pier, to your right as you approach the pier along A23.

Planning on heading back up via Steyning, Partridge Green, Mannings Heath, so could then divert across to Turners Hill

Judging by the weather forecast, I won't be going out on Sunday. If wet, forget it.

Saturday should be OK though.

You should be fine Marky if you take it steady and sit in. Take it easy on the way down as you might feel it on the way back first time with your legs falling off somewhere if you get too carried away too early.
Normal CR kit plus an extra couple of energy bars & gels just in case you need them. Oh and don't forget your "smugglers".
2 bottles is fine (re-fill in Brighton)
Pork pie for the return journey optional but nice at about the 70/80 mile mark when you're teeth are screaming at you not to stick any more sweet food in your gob  .

Might (sorry, almost certainly will) become a bit of a burn up toward the end of the return leg but no-one's dropped before they know where they are, i.e. not until on CR route in reverse or similar.

Have fun 8)
