Raining again

Postby huw williams » Wed May 28, 2008 5:25 pm

Got soaked (again) at lunchtime - is it me or is global warming causing more races to be cancelled, sportives to be p****d on, training rides to be miserable, than even just a couple of years ago?

There's nothing worse than a cat with cabin fever And my rollers need new bearings I've been on them so much

Had more than my share of wet ones Snoop  .

Know what you mean Huw, I went home via Herne Hill and it started a light drizzle and blew up a bit of a gust  , I was early but there was someone knocking about so I asked him what the score was and he said he thought it'd be off tonight. Stuck the fixie in the car and headed home. Hardly anything since and it probably went ahead fine  .

I'm with you on this Huw - I seem to have a permanent rain cloud above me. As soon as I step out the front door, down it comes!!!!

Want to live somewhere warm and sunny 8) 8) 8) 8)

Got bloody soaked this evening  . Commuter's been stripped down in preparation for the Dragon so got a soaking wet 'arris thanks to riding ala Huw - no guards.

Andrew, how come you will use your ' commuting ' bike for the Dragon ? I am guessing it's a fair bit heavier than your best stead ? just curious like as I guess the ride will mean a lot of hills...
cheers,

Easy answer Brian, gears. My commuter is my old red Ambrosio, so no lightweight but not that heavy once the rack, mudguards, and lighting rig have been taken off. It has a compact on it so I'll have a low gear of 34x25 as opposed to 39x26 on my race bike. I'm sure it'd be fine on that but this'll just allow me to twiddle a bit more in the earlier stages.

Yep, took the rear off this morning when I saw the blue sky. In the end I don't think it would have made much difference with it though.

Righto Andrew - didn't realise you had 'standard' gears on your best bike... Yeah - makes sense to have compact or triples on sportives..
those prints you linked to are pretty good - quite tempted to get a few but I'm supposed to be going easy with the debit card !

Yeah, don't really like compacts and always have standard 53/39 chainrings. Stuck a compact on that to use it for sportives and holidays as I don't mind so much if it gets trashed by an airline.

I've got the Pantani print too. Fantastic photos from the L'equipe archives here. Got this Anquetil and Poulidor classic and had it framed it for my Dad one year.
