Club Run 28/06 - Coulsdon to Brighton

Postby Alex P » Fri Jun 20, 2008 7:16 pm

We are planning another Agreeables Epic ride to Brighton on Saturday 28/06/08. :P :P :P

This will follow the format as previously where we have different ability groups setting off from CSS at around 9:00am and arriving at Brighton for lunch to stock up for the return trip (or catch a train back).

If the weather is bad we can decide to do the normal club run.

Anybody up for this?

Yes, I will probably be up for this. I am happy to lead a group, and if they want I can take them a route that includes a few more hills than the average ride and some of the scenery of Ashdown Forest.

Cheers

Marek....

Sounds good to me. A good leg stretcher on the weekend before the etape - perfect.

Yes, I'll be willing to do a 15's group. I suggest meeting at CSS at 8.30am, leaving 8.45am promptly for the usual route via Smallfield, Turners Hill etc, probably incorporating a tea stop at Haywards Heath about 11am, continuing on over Ditchling to arrive about 12.15am. Neither John (the old un) Lovell, nor John (Chernobyl) Czernobay can make it, so if anyone wants to double up to help watch out for everyone incase of mechanicals etc. they'd be most welcome. :)

As a starting point for groups/times/abilities - how does this look?

8.45 15mph - Direct route via Turners Hill - Tim C

9.00 17 - 18mph - ?? Volunteer VCs please ????

9.15 - (A) Training Group 21mph + via Ashdown Forest - Marek (anything goes)

9.30 - (B) Training Group 19-21mph - Direct route via Turners Hill - Huw

*NB Speeds are based on groups you ride with on the regular CR,

All suggestions on the above schedule welcome

mis-read the 100's in July, the 50s next Sunday. I'm still not doing 100 miles the day before though.

Huw,

That sounds a plan, I'll be up to lead a 17-18mph group as long as somebody tells me the way :? all I know is to point the car down the M23 and stop when you hit the sea.

Monty will also be out so he will be in (lead) that group I imagine.

Alex

Don't want to throw a spanner in the works but how many people actually know about this 'exciting opportunity'' ??!!! :D Unlike last year's event not much of a buzz about it in the cafe on Saturday

Just a thought but might have got this completely wrong there might be hundreds oiling their sprockets in preparation for the big day as we speak.

Cheers

Nice one Alex. Hey if you're the group VC you can pretty much decide on the route yourself (though you might find some dissenting voices if you decide t head straight down the A23  ) As long as you let everyone know in advance what to expect (ie don't surprise them by going via Eastbourne :D )

Our usual direct route offers a nice mix of lanes and main roads to get the distance in: CSS over the M25 as normal, turn left in Merstham and up to Bletchingly, straight over and up past the windmill at Outwood, Smallfield, Copthorne, Turners Hill, Haywards Heath, Burgess Hill and Ditchling Beacon.

Jon

Unfortunately I was not out on sat so could not make an announcement, however there seems to be a fair amount of interest (and there have been some emails going around too) so we will still go with whoever want to go.
