C2C

Each year Michelle and I take part in a fund raising activity on behalf of the Redhill & Reigate YMCA (we've them to blame for getting us hooked on cycling following a Redhill to Paris ride 3 years ago).

This weekend 40 of us did the Whitehaven to Newcastle Coat to Coast (C2C) Ride.

We had a great time. 2 days of cycling The Lake and The Penines with a few beers each evening. The only problem came when a Jack Russell decided to have a chomp on Michelle's calf. :shock: I don't think the official C2C route actually goes via Penrith hospital, but it was only a short diversion. As you can see from the photo above amuputation wasn't required and we made it safely to the North Sea.

Keith & Michelle, I have happy memories of the C2C, Whitehaven to Newcastle and back via the Reivers Route in September 2003 with Phil Nash. We used our MTBs but stuck mostly to roads except along the Derwent Valley and through Keilder Forest. The Lakes were probably the highlight (my personal favourate area for holidays anyway). There were two Dutch guys on recumbents who were doing it at the sametime and we kept meeting up with them. We had a good Curry to celebrate our arrival in North Shields; a great night at The Cock Inn in Keider where they had a number of draught Real Ales :lol: and we met an interesting character. I also remember getting soaked to the skin on the last afternoon through the Lakes back to Whitehaven :cry: . It was payday at Sellafield when we arrived back at Whitehaven and everyone was out on the town! Our Virgin train got held up for several hours on the way back due to engineering works overrun (nothing new there then), so we got most of our fares refunded in vouchers which we used to reach Penzance when we did LEJOG the following summer. (The gaunlet is cast :wink: )

Has anyone heard if the Jack Russell survived?

[quote="Keith"] Redhill to Paris ride

I like the sound of this - given the numbers we now get riding to Brighton and back maybe its time we thought about a Paris club-run weekend?. Ride down friday and saturday, saturday night in a Paris bordello, train back on sunday. PVT must know a route

Sadly the russell is dead of a cleat stuck up its ar$e. :twisted:

I wish, no I didn't even think to get details off the owners so I could dob them in to the police. Would have got Mr and Mrs Smith of 2 High stret anyway. :x

The antibiotics appear to be working as the wound is not septic, I have had my tetanus jab this morning, so apart from the obvious thing - ie lack of fitness - i am all set for La Marmotte.

C2C was great though, despite the dog induced puncture wound and massive bruise. Great scenery, some really good hills that I enjoyed, some fantastice tail-wind descents, and not too much rain. Fab!

Redhill to Paris is fantastic, did it in 2005 set off at 4.00 am on the first day, I remember that early start to Newhaven as being one of the best cycles of my life. It would be a fab weekend if we could do it.

It's only 112 miles from Dieppe. Did you do it in one day?

Thinking about an ACC day trip (route recce??) from Boulogne as Speed ferries have just announced they will carry bikes. (30 August??)
