I must agree that he showed no humanity by calling out he was not going to move…..WHY. He does deserve a sentence if he admitted refusing to move. We have all been in that situation and I believe that none of us would deliberately ride towards a crowd of people.

But I have read in 2 tabloids and also heard on the BBC that he was speeding?

He was traveling between 17-20 mph. If he was on the road surely that is legal?
I do not condone what he has done and the lack of Care prior to the accident, but he did get off and offer help. Unlike many car drivers that would have driven off.

Just another reason for people to look down their noses at us, the Few.

Shouting he wasn't going to move makes him sound like a pillock. Speed is not an issue if he wasn't on the road, I always thought cycling on the pavement was illegal full stop, then again so is running red lights and driving while on a mobile phone but that doesn't stop people.

Ultimately, if you put the detail aside, this man has caused the death of a young woman.

Therefore, should surely face more than a £2,200 fine? It is as the father says, laughable.

If you cause the death of someone in this way, I feel there is no alternative to a custodial sentance.

Pedestrians are one of the reasons I don't like riding in London (other people on bikes are the other). It has long been acknowledged that pedestrians can't be controlled and I find they wander all over the road and cycle paths and then get p*ssed off if you politely remind them that you, a cyclist, are there

It is a sad business and a shame it ended in a young person's death but I just don't like the reporting, especially in the 'lesser' papers. The Metro reported it with a big headline about cyclist just shouted 'I'm not stopping' but then barely mentions that he did stop and gave first aid!

Maybe the CTC will come up with something concrete? I want to know what effect the drinking had on the girl - she's reported as having two cans of beer and she was 17. What's the legal aspect on this?

Some it grates a bit but otherwise it's OK. I would like to have seen a comment by a "responsible" cyclist on the 'fun' of avoiding pedestrians and taxis.

Caught the end of Channel Four News (once I'd resolved my puncture issues) and was dismayed by the tone of the reporting, which seems to be fairly consistent throughout the media. Forget knife criminals and identity thieves - there's a new menace out there.

And in today's Metro a headline reads "Driver fined 'ludicrous' £275 for killing cyclist"
