Always good to see Tottenham at the bottom but alas I`m sure it won`t be for that long.

I get the picture now.

So one more win for Fulham would lead to this...

It's all down to goal difference

As an ex local park referee I just cannot understand how anyone can follow football these days.
There is NEVER a TRUE result in any game I watch on TV. so as far as I'm concerned the whole lot is a load of BO**OX.
There is constant cheating, i.e pulling, holding, and pushing going on, all three offences requiring the referee to caution the player i.e. a yellow card. and dismiss after a second offence.
How about if I latch on to a back wheel when caught in a TT (which I could easily have done last Saturday) . Would I be applauded provided no official saw it.?
NO. Of course not.
So why does it happen in Football.?
Simple.
The referees know the Laws of the Game, but have been told not to apply them rigorously because that would "spoil" the game for the people who are daft enough to go to watch these overpaid prima donnas act.
How many times do we hear that the referee "is stopping the flow of the game by blowing his whistle" ?
HE is not comitting the offences. Its the actors on the pitch kicking a bit of plastic in front of an audience stupid enough to pay to watch the charade.
Rant over.

I like your posts Mark and Sean. They certainly made me chuckle.
However, I didn't bang my head this morning.
I have been banging my head regarding this subject for many years, as I have watched the game of football steadily going down the gurgler.

Have you always done the yellow thing John?

Or did you ever go through a red stage?
Check this out if you have 5minutes and 30seconds spare

Quality ranting John and know exactly what you mean. I used to love footie and had a season ticket at West Ham, I know the 2 don't necessarily go hand-in-hand but I did witness some quality players, and also half the current England team starting out making their debuts at WH, and saw goals likethis.

I gave it up and switched to club membership to cherry pick a few games when the price rocketed by about 70%. It was going to cost £450 for the cheapest section of the stadium - remember this is still West Ham we're talking about here folks. I dropped that after a season as the costs were so high to watch what was increasingly becoming a load of play-acting and cheating, and an often shoddy standard of football.

Shirt pulling and the like is pretty poor these days but I can't remember the last time obstruction was given for a defender shepherding the ball behind the goal line. It's given anywhere else on the pitch and half the time they practically wresttle with the player while the ball slowly rolls out of play.

Tsk, when I were a lad...

I applied the Laws as we were taught during the lengthy course prior to the exam.
Wouldn't referee now as it would be pretty impossible.
Kids who play on the local parks think they can do what the players they see on TV getting away with.
Just to give you an indicator of how it used to be.
A ball went out for what was clearly a goal kick.
A player from the attacking side yelled at me "corner ref"
I replied "You know full well it is a goal kick"
He said "Yes I know ref, but you've got to try, haven't you" and laughed.
I promptly booked him.
He said "why ref?"
I replied "You just admitted you were trying to cheat. That is Ungentlemanly Coduct, for which I have to book you."
NO ONE ARGUED WITH ME AGAIN IN THAT MATCH.
Job done.
Arguing is Dissent, which attracts a Caution.
Watch it happening non-stop on TV these days.
Never on my park. !!!!!

It all went downhill when they brought in advertising on the shirts, if you ask me. And I'm being perfectly serious.

It was 30 years ago this weekend that I first went to Upton Park. (v Bristol Rovers; 2-0). Sigh.

West Ham were without one a few year's ago, and the current sponsor will come off the shirt too (XL holidays  ).

Jiffy condoms are always trying to sponsor teams and offer more money than most people, they did to West ham, but no-one wants to have that on their kit and the adverse effects on sales so they're still looking. Mind you Palace ran around with Virgin all over them quite happily :D .
