portable hard-drive problems

I've been a very silly boy, plugged in the wrong cable to one of my portable hard drives, nasty electrical smell, all contact lost. There are 300gb of images lon the machine, all of them have already been sent to clients but I would like to have access to them if it's not going to cost a fortune, can anyone of you experts suggest anything please?

Hopefully you have only damaged the power supply unit.
