Ohuruogu: Scatty Cow or Suspected Drugs cheat

Postby Toks » Thu Dec 04, 2008 11:22 am

Forgive me for bringing this one back again. This up and coming BBC's Sports personality of the year award has got quite a few people on forums talking about Christine Ohrurugo and its an interesting debate.

Ok here's what I've read

1. She missed three out of competition test. According to Daren Campbell she was actually competing for the UK while she was supposed to be tested in one of them.
2. There were two other atheletes who were allowed to compete in the Olympics having also missed tests I believe.
3. She hasn't actually failed any tests.

So is all the flak she's gettin deserved. I've employed some very talented but seriously scatty types in the past. Even having had warning after warning they've often failed to comply with important rules so I can understand how yes she could miss three tests. What do you guys feel? http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/sport/ ... 569410.ece

I don't know what business you're in Toks, but gold medal athletes are focussed and calculating, not scatty. Missing three tests sounds pretty calculated to me.

If your job depends on being in a certain place at a certain time, then you can't afford to be scatty about it, and if you have tendencies to be scatty then you should make sure you have a back-up plan to remind you. Absolutely no excuse IMHO.

In other industries being scatty costs people their lives, not just jobs, money or medals.

I agree mate. I've been at tribunal where solicitor's/advocates, speech and language therapists and other professionals have forgotten documents and missed appointment times. In fact one guy I know of never makes an appointment if his PA is on holiday. Quite often they ring up like Christine did on one case and say I can be there in an hour. But hey whatever, suspicion without proof sits quite well with some people :D

Cheat, cheat, cheat, cheat, cheat.

Anyone read Linford Christie's book about how he would be able to build up the concentration of drugs, missing tests until the effects had gone down.

BTW David Millar never missed OR failed a drugs test

Cheat and a calculating one.

To miss one test is possible as the whereabouts scheme can be a nightmare - although hers was the watered down one I think which isn't as difficult.

To miss the second test when you know people will be after you is dodgy as you'd make absolutely sure you were going to be where you said you'd be - even if it meant getting there early and having to wait about. You'd also cancel other engagements to avid any possible clashes or overlaps.

To miss a third test = "I've taken drugs but don't want to get caught, so I'll skip another test and get a smaller ban, and then come back and still be able to be a hero as I've never failed a test. Heh the never failed a test arguement's worked for others so why should I be aby different".

Should never have been allowed back in to the British team. Double standards because we're rubbish at athletics but she could win a medal and therefore keep the huge flow of unjustified cash pouring in to it.

She IS a drugs cheat.
She failed to comply with the rules regarding the use of drugs in sport.
She is required to comply with those rules relating to tests but failed to do so......... Her reason for doing so is irrelevant.
She knew the rules and even knowing the consequences still failed to comply.
In my book she should never have been allowed to compete in Beijing. :(

must admit I am terrible at remembering meetings etc and am well known for it at work, it would be interesting to know if she also misses training sessions etc because she has forgot, or is her selective memory loss only for drug tests?

Deperately unlucky if you ask me. On three occasions she's not where she said she would be, and those just happen to be three occasions on which the testers show up. I'm sure she was where she said she would be each time they didn't show up.

Or have I missed something?

That is pretty unlucky, I make it a 1 in 48,228,180 chance of missing 3 days in 1 year.

Wow such damning evidence. Case close then. She's obviously a cheat.

I make it slightly higher at 1 in 59,318,610, plus or minus a bit.

3 tests in 18 months, where person needs to be available 5 days out of each 7.

and that's not taking into account intra-day movements
