Ski season started - Courchevel is the place to go

Postby Fabobiker » Thu Dec 04, 2008 5:20 pm

Hi everyone,

First of all I'd like to say thanks a lot to all you guys I met while cycling throughout the summer
you're doing an excellent job towards the sport of cycling for all level of bikers, everyone can
join the group more appropriate to his level and enjoy his ride.
The skiing season is starting for me, I'll be in Courchevel 1850 If you've never been there I really
suggest you to go, not only because I'm teaching there, but because is one of the 10 best ski resorts in the world!
The snow is always fresh and not icy, as the valley faces North, therefore the snow does never melt during the day and freeze overnight
like in other places. The choice of slopes is fantastic, from beginner's level to most experienced skiers all have a selection of slopes
to choose from; at the bottom of every run you have always at least 3 lift to choose from, and that means very little queueing even in the
busyests periods.
To get there, I suggest you to fly Easyjet from Gatwick to Grenoble, prices are from 29£, Grenoble is a small airport at one and a half hour drive to the ski resort,
shuttle buses are available and car hire is not too expensive.
If you need a help for accomodation, contact me and I might be able to find something for you, depending of course on periods and how early you can book.
Anyway, thanks again, I had a lot of fun cycling with you guys, I'm looking forward for the springtime to be back and cycle again.
It might be a bit early, but I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year
Cheers,
Fabo

Good to hear we made such a good impression :D . Don't forget to tell all those skiers where to go for a bike ride when they're in London  .

Good for families and there are expensive places but also less expensive ones. A good way to save money is by staying down the mountain, say at 1350. Skiing's the same just maybe not straight out the front door.

Hi Fabo, pleased to hear from you! I can only second what Fabo said about Courch', it's really an excellent resort! The snow is outstanding and the lifts/equipment are top notch.
Unfortunately I won't go there this year, I would have loved to ski with you, I'm sure you would have make me pay dearly for having ripped your legs off once on the way from Box Hill :D but I'll be in Flaines in January, and in Val d'Isère (another top resort I recommend!) in March.

Enjoy the snow while we (try to) enjoy the road!

Fabobiker - you could be the answer to all my ski problems. 8) 8)
I'm looking to get out to the Alps for a week with my wife :D starting from around the 19th Jan. We've been looking around at some deals but haven't booked anything yet. We've not been away (abroad) together on our own without the kids so it's something I really need to sort out as I'm getting serious grief. :x :x

I'll PM you.

With a guide and an early start I believe you can ski from Val to Courch.

Hi guys,
yes, it is probably the best beginning of a ski season of the past 5/10 years snow wise.
Courchevel keeps improving, it's amazing to see from one season to the next one,
that they always build something new, modify the slopes and adding activities to do,etc
Good to see you're still cycling...I'll have to join a gym to keep my cycling muscles fit and ready
to keep up with you guys from the springtime.
Anyway, Merry Xmas and happy new year
Fabo
