Sunday 14th December

Postby Andrew G » Tue Dec 09, 2008 8:31 pm

This week I will be mostly going for quite a long one over fairly tough terrain. Feel free to join me if you want to.

Start: 9am at GBs

Terrain: rolling with a few tough(ish) hills getting in the way.

Distance: GBs – GBs = 80 miles (+ getting lost distance).

Pace: Steady. Not slow, but not a "training" ride.

Route: Can be found here.

In summary it’s out via Titsey and then straight along the rolling B road through to, and climbing up to, Ashdown Forest. Then down t’other side to Maresfield and east towards Black Boys. From here there are some very nice looking lanes that I’ve not been down before which I’m hoping to use and wind my way up towards Groombridge – this is where the “+ getting lost distance” may come in to play. I don’t care though and it’s half the fun of cycling and finding new routes. From Groombridge via Fordcoombe to Penshurst and then home (the linked route shows my preferred option of Toy’s hill and Pilgrims Way for this but on the day I may just climb up to Crockham and through Westerham).

I may not bother with a coffee stop, if I do it won’t be before Penshurst or Westerham.

If you want to join me my standard Sunday rules apply:
Self Sufficiency – make sure you have the tools, tubes, food and drink to fend for yourself. Bring a map (or print out bits of the route linked to) to find your way home if you are dropped and get lost, drop me and get lost, want to turn back early and are lost.

Cheers,

Andrew.

Might join you. The weather for the CR on saturdays looking pretty damp at the moment, sunday looks promising so far.

Not up to that sort of thing yet (d@mn, d@mn, d@mn) so instead will potter about those lanes I rediscovered last Sunday and head for Box Hill - short ride, some hills and maybe tea too

Looks good Mr  .
As it's got Toy's Hill en-route I presume this is a ride for gears rather than fixed.

Yes gears. The rest of the route will have a few hills and the run to Ashdown Forest is very rolling.

Shame Amy the lanes down there look like they'll be really good, the ones we went on on our way to Rye certainly were which is what made me want to have a bit more of a discover down there.

Or maybe not, we'll see. But Westerham has plenty of nice cafes (one does very nice hot puds with custard 8) ) so not exactly hard to find one if you want/need a cuppa to sustain you back home (try bringing more than one bottle, that might help  ).

2 bottles  and anyway the coffee would be cold  , and the apple pie and custard would make a mess of my pockets

I know the tearooms in Westerham and I AM STOPPING 8)

I'm starting to get a porky belly, hence the need for the long ride

I almost certainly won't be, so if you are joining me for this ride folks you'll have 2 choices by the looks of it. Come with me after Toy's for a nice run back along Pilgrims way and home via Beddlestead, or cut back in to Westerham after Toy's for coffee and sticky puddings with Mr.T.

If it's going to be as bad as they say on Saturday I might be up for this.
