Alternative CR route - next week?

Postby Amy » Sun Jan 04, 2009 5:08 pm

I've thought up a nice alternative route down to Charlwood - it starts by turning up Star Lane at Hooley :D Anyone want to join me?

As all the fast ones will be going on Andrew's super hilly ride, this is for the slower ones, like me  I'm not going to specify a speed as it's aiming to be steady (like our ride the other day, Marky Mark and TimNick) and we can wait for those who drop off the back in any case.

If you are interested let me know either by posting here or pm'ing me :D (otherwise I get kinda despondent and just decide to go for the normal run).

Hi Amy, I will be up for an alternative route, so I can sit behind you whilst you drag me up those hills. As long as you dont decide to puncture again :(
See you next week.

You'll be lucky

After the worst cold I've had and too long off the bike, I'll probably still be wheezing well...

Hopefully about a 15/16 :)

I suppose I should add that it will be weather-dependent as some of the roads I'm hoping to go on are quite minor roads - and I'm planning to drop down Pebblecombe and the second corner can be nasty enough without anything like ice on it.

Count me in Amy :P - and let's get going asap as it looks like it's brass monkeys again and being first there last week I must've been blue under two/three layers of lyrca by the time the taffing and faffing was over.....not that I mind to much as it gives me an opportunity to place names/online names to faces - bit a like a bizarre parlour game for the modern age!

Can't promise Kitkats (but the wife works for Nestle.......so you never know!) and hey who needs high/slow release carb bars when you've got the nations favourite 2 fingers.

Ride carefully if any of you are out this week (I've knocked commuting on the head fo this week so far)....too much ice and half inch of snow this morning....pah!

Amy, I do that descent most days (in the dark  ), usually topping out at 38/40mph, but I haven't come across any ice on it as it is a South facing slope, so it is not as scary as it first seems. Feathering the brakes at the top means you can arrive at the bottom bend at a sensible speed, and it is not very tight, but a little bumpy.
Should be fine.

Thanks for the heads up, Paul, but I have been riding that hill since I was a sprog. It's other people who don't know it so well I'm worried about. Oh well I shall just tell them to take it easy then I can bomb ahead and get a good run up for that little rise in the middle :D

TimNick - I was thinking of saying, whatever anyone else is doing, we'll leave at 9.15!!

No, not yet at any rate. If it stays dry but cold, I can't see too much of a problem. Admittedly I wouldn't want to take too big a group out...

I think we can see what it's like on the morning 8)
