[quote]What would've happened had I refused to show ID? After all the last I checked you didn't need ID to travel within the UK. Rant over.

They would have used their "anti terror powers" and frightened the living sh1t out of you .

Unless of course you were a real criminal then they would let you go and pay you compo

[quote="Sean Hogan - 何祥"]The whole thing is already freaking me out. At christmas I saw that you had to have your photo taken at Gatwick departures as your boarding card was checked. Why? I was told that this was a BAA requirement and that the image was held for 24hrs. I was also made to provide ID on coming back into Gatwick from Edinburgh when the system in place for verifying passengers crashed. What would've happened had I refused to show ID? After all the last I checked you didn't need ID to travel within the UK. Rant over.

The photo at check in is a new one on me, I'll ask my brother if he needed his done at Heathrow when he gets back as that's BAA too. I wouldn't trust them to delete it either, or what good it does them having it.

I thought you needed ID for internal UK flights as standard though, just as a proof that it's your ticket as you don't need a passport.

I've always thought ID cards were an invasion of privacy and don't add any security as they'd be forged rather than having to forge numerous documents instead. If you want to bomb somewhere you can, same reason the volume of liquids you're allowed to take on board is nonsense too. You could easily get enough explosive in the containers you're allowed on to cause enough damage for it to be an issue on a plane.

Slightly off topic but I heard that the liquids/sharp implements rule even applies to aircrew.
A commercial captain with one of the big airlines had some tweezers confiscated (he was perhaps planning to hijack himself with them). These, along with other items belonging to air/cabin crew were then given to him in a clear bag once airside, for safekeeping. Upon boarding the plane he placed the bag safely in the cockpit. Alongside the escape axe.

Do you think I'll be able to get to Mallorca on last year's ACC membership card?
