[quote="Andrew G"]Discs make the best noise and look good, what else do you need to know?
50mm up front tends to be most peoples option if you only have one front race wheel as it covers all conditions. PVT uses a PX101 and says he doesn't have problems but said that's down to tandem racing experience.
Another option depending on your budget is a pair of Xentis from Planet X. noticed a few of these about and Big Ben likes them (bombproof too) - mind you they're from a sponsor which might affect his comments
.
To be PC
I have always said that the PX101 is a scary front wheel - yes I can handle it OK and have learnt to live with it's characteristics, but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone without (a) a good deal of riding experience, and (B) a lot of tri-bar experience.
The Bora front (52mm I think) is absolutely fine and steady in 99% of conditions.
Haven't tried a tri-spoke (Jon beat me to the pun) but George's Xentis flies along in the tandem (pricey though - RichV has a cheap second hand - broken - one after hitting a pot hole.
Discs are the way to go for the back wheel though - lovely noise
and weigh about the same as a "normal" wheel. The Bora is lighter, but only better on a hilly course.
