Yes folks, today me 'n' Chris Boardman finally got it together.
What a fascinating character. The behavioural changes he made to go from selfish pro cyclist to leader of team secret squirrel were considerable. Big challenges which he shared frankly. I've gathered some great, useful info and reinforced some of my thinking. It will all help me in my new business venture.
Chris shared some great short stories about the early stages of the team development. I can't do him justice here but the single biggest thing I took from these stories was, you choose your own attitude. He's damn right about that, there are lots of things we can't affect, but we're in complete control of that important element. He also talked about curiosity and listening, and their critical importance.
High performance essentials for the team:
Value diversity
Clearly define roles
Park egos, to deliver the best group performance
Share praise
Trust
Listen, understand
Most importantly.....have fun
I also got some great learning from him on my current cycling fears.
What a great morning, what a geezer.
