Club Run 11 July

Postby Hal » Sat Jul 11, 2009 9:54 pm

My first club run in ages after all the other rides and races I have been doing lately and I overslept. Woke up at 8:30, watched yesterdays stage of the tour on video over breakfast and headed out to catch up the club run.

Here is a clip of John C leading the J4F or 16's in perfect two line formation.

A quick cuppa and a slice of cake at the cafe and back via box hill.

Feeling good after a steady ride down and set the stopwatch as we started the climb, paced the group out with Paul H on my wheel, just kept tapping out a good pace till finally giving a kick at the end to loose Paul (I'm sure he was going steady  ).

Stopped the watch almost dead on 6 mins depending on where the official finish is. :D :D

(approx 05:54 at first carpark on the right, 06:01 by the fence where we sit and rest)

Well I managed to stay upright this week which I'm happy about. :D

Last minute decision to join in with the training group which was large again in numbers this week. Not ridden at this speed or intensity for a couple of months but thought I'd just see how long I'd last. Before we even hit the dreaded M23 junction people were being spat out the back, not me though, actually found the pace comfortable which suprised me considering my lack of hard rides lately. Felt strong over the steps, never in trouble of getting dropped and just hung around at the back of the group as we passed through Reigate and up past the golf course. About halfway through the ride Andy E had had enough and gave up, I deceided to join him as was feeling really bone idle and just couldn't be arsed. He was suffering which is no big suprise after his adventures in Wales and quite a nasty crash to recover from.

We soon collected Ed who'd also given up and the 3 of us just had an easy ride to the cafe to be first in the queue for tea and cake.

On the return leg found myself with Steve B and Keith and we were soon alone. I had a good turn on the front and again felt strong with the dynamic duo in tow. Shame I no longer have the stamina and once Keith took to the front I slowly watched them ride away from me though not suprising as they're both going really well at the mo. Kept a reasonable pace on my own though up to the usual re-grouping place where after a quick stop we were off again. Andy E led the way up the drag with me sat of his wheel playing lazy sods again, I eventually came round him for a turn on the front before he came round again pretty quickly with me complaining I was on the limit (sandbagging :D ) It was just then a lovely big box van came past us....too good an opportunity to miss so I sprinted up to the back of it and had an easy time of it back towards CSS.

Quite pleased with my ride, feel as though I haven't lost that much speed out of my legs over the past 3 months, just got to get some stamina back.
