Spring Ballbuster

8 years ago my first ever multi discipline event was the ballbuster. The 8 mile run that finished on top of box hill, followed by 3 laps on the bike going up the hill 3 more times and just to bust your balls another 8 mile run at the end.

One of my mates Darryl Easton had entered the race but could not make it so I took his place and ran as him for my second attempt at this hard race. First lap on the run and I decided to try to pace myself by doing an hour run, so averaging 8mph. Then onto the bike and this is where I managed to pick up a few places. Caught up with Ben Fancourt and Chris Scarlett.

Onto the 2nd run and it was starting to hurt. I slowed right down at the start of the run as left knee was giving me jib. It eased up after a couple of miles and then Ben and Chris came running past me. I jumped in a bush for probably the longest pee I have ever had, had been dying for one since the first few miles. Then that seemed to lighten the load. Onto the hill for the last time and the legs came to life. I could see Chris Scarlett in the distance with his team mates egging him on, so I used him as a target and soon had him in my sight and then overtook him. Then ahead I could see Ben Fancourt again, so head down and put in a bit more of a dig and soon caught him up and left him in my wake. Very satisfying.

Great fun event, everyone is really friendly and a real sense of achievement when you come over the line. Came 53rd overall in 3hrs 23mins something, did the 13th fastest bike time which was pleased with considering the lack of training have done recently. Need to up the pace on the running if am going to compete for the higher places.

Good to see all the Accers from the club run and the hilly 50k at the top.

Cheers

Nice one Marek, coming back past Ben after a stop wow. I managed to blag a sweater from the Autumn BB where I DNS'ed, which was pretty handy on the solo ride back as it was getting colder. I did manage to draft behind Ben's car for a while, but even that was too hard with the wind and heavy legs.
