ACC on the board... Hillingdon 13/2/2010

4th cats:
2nd: Toby Kerr Addiscombe CC
3rd: Richard Hosking Addiscombe CC

Always good to get some points on the board early doors and we delivered in spades today.

I've been trying to get Toby to his first race for the past 12 weeks and we've had to endure illness, extended periods of indoor training due to icy roads and a puncture after less than 10 minutes at this race last weekend, so realistically this was his first race. After intense tactical planning over the past few weeks I'm glad to report that Toby rode it like an old hand, keeping just a handful of the 40 rider field in front of him for the whole race, ignoring any breaks which in windy conditions were doomed to fail and fighting to hold his position in the frantic last five laps. He was perfectly placed in the top ten last time round the bottom bend and almost brought it home for the win, just missing out by less than a wheel. With ACC compatriot Richard Hosking in third we had a great day. Given the unpredictable nature of 4th cat racing, the size of the field and the fact that this is the first time Toby's been in that situation I think he did amazingly well.

I believe it was points down to 10th which probably means he needs a point or two more to get his 3rd cat and although the winter series ends today, there's another couple of pre-season races left which we'll target to try and get it nailed before the season proper.

Not a bad start to the racing year :D :D :D

Here you go... not just race reports but vids too... Be warned though this is a lo-res off my rubbishy little camera, so it ain't quite Avatar

Well done both.

Richard said he managed to get in a break for a few laps but got caught back after they were told to slow down when a 3rd cat breakway group caught them which must be frustrating. I think windy conditions can make it easier to create breaks sometimes as nobody wants to chase you down.

Watch out for Richard, he is training hard and the powertap said he is going to do well this season.

Yeah this is always frustrating in the hillingdon 4th races - even if you get away you have to sit up when the 3rds come past which usually means the 4ths catch you quite easily. I told toby not to bother chasing any breaks down for that reason. Richard looks strong enough to win a 4ths race there.

Good work - I've sent this to the advertiser, it practically wrote itself :)

New contact there this season here's hoping we continue to get good coverage.

Well done Toby, Richard and Huw.
