Norlond TT Combine 50

Postby Jon H » Sun May 16, 2010 12:02 pm

An early start this morning, and as I drove through London to get up to the A1 it was evident that Saturday night was still in full swing in certain 'hoods. After some random navigation north of the river I eventually found the A1 and arrived at the HQ in Roxton with about 40 minutes to got before my start time. Just enough time for a dump, get kitted up, put the bike together, and ride to the start.

A bit of a headwind from the south for the first 2.4 miles to the turn, then nice tailwind for 12 miles to the next turn. At this point I was averaging over 25mph so was thinking this could turn out to be a good ride. The average tailed off on the next southerly leg to just less than 24. I was hoping I would be able to pick it up again but it was not to be. Finished in 2:07:44 which is a minute faster than last week, but a good 5 minutes slower than the times I did on this course in 2007.

PVT was also riding but was off quite a bit later than me. As I drove home I passed him at 9:21 and he'd got maybe a mile to go. As he'd started at 7:11 I reckon he'll have done about a 2:13.

A shame you didn't get the ride you were hoping for after such an early start and long drive, including your late efforts to get your weight down. Sounds like that nice tailwind came back to haunt you later on.

Oh, and Happy Birthday, at least you had a little bit extra on your standard today :D .
