Beastway round 10 - 20th July

Was that Mr Ferri I saw making his Beastway debut at last night's designated muddy round?

He looked to be coping with the conditions better than most for a decent placing - certainly top 40 overall.

Thanks Grahame bit of a mud bath there last night! good fun with a relaxed atmosphere
Was battling it out with the eventual vets winner for the 1st couple of laps until i went head 1st into a thistle hedge. After this i couldn't stay on the bike much sliding all over the place and got passed by a few more but managed a 31st and 6th vet in the end. Great fun look forward to next week, might stick some more suitable tyres on next time though......

The mud certainly added to the fun. Having helped build the course, I decided to marshal rather than ride around and have a nightmare cleaning the bike afterwards (if I'd looked at the weather forecast I'd have taken the singlespeed), I then confirmed my excuse list by lending my rear QR skewer to a singlespeed rider who'd broken his QR somehow during his warmup/reccy lap.

We had a bit of a panic near the start of the race when we noticed 2/3 of the riders were crashing on the descent through the woods, so I got John Mullineux to help me reroute the race down the gravelly zigzags before anybody got injured (we didn't want any Andy Schlecks or Alexandre Vinokourovs in our race), I spent the rest of the race at the top of the hill telling people about the reroute.

From the pictures, it looks like I picked a good week to be on holiday. Well done to all the marshalls who helped out in what looks like a deluge.
