MR PVT and I dusted off the two wheeled blue dream machine to have another crack at that elusive 10 mile club tandem record of 20.48.
Up to the E2/10 course we drove which is up near cambridge, conditions were warm with a fair breeze on the way to the turn and tail wind back. There were 5 tandems today and we weren't even the fastest seeded pairing.
Off we went and got up to speed fairly quickly, the headwind required a considerable amount of power to keep the big gears turning and Paul was reluctant to change down as always he believes if you change down you lose speed
Round the turn and we had already made up 2 mins on one of the pairings and a little while later rolled past a 75 year old lady and her 13 year old grand daughter who were off 3 slots ahead of us.
On the way back it was very painful indeed, we were in top gear 30+ mph all the way even up the drags, but it was agony on the legs and real difficult, I knew Paul must have been in even more pain though
The last final drag with 2 miles to go I shouted come on Paul push push
Across the line Paul had some new maximum heart rates and said it was the toughest thing he had ever done
Well we only went and done it and after all our efforts were well chuffed, as we beat the record by 20 seconds and won the event too!:D
20.28 new club record
Thanks PVT couldn't have done it without you
