Robert Royle-Evatt and I got our BBAR campaigns underway this morning with the Charlotteville 50 on the H50/8 course between Farnham and Chawton. A straightforward course all on dual carriageway, two laps amounting to 40 ish miles, then a shorter lap turning at an intermediate roundabout to make up the distance to 50 miles.
Having had a cold during the week, I wasn't expecting great things today, and was half hoping to look out the window at torrential rain when I woke up which would have given me an excuse to DNS. But alas, when the alarm clock went off it was dry outside so I made the effort.
I had a time of 2:05:00 in my mind to aim at, and being a 3 lap course it would be easy to pack if I way off the mark. I started off at a reasonably steady pace, and went through 20 miles at around 50:40, which wasn't far off my target pace. By this point I could see I was catching my minute man, which was encouraging, and eventually got past him just before the third turn at 27 miles.
Well, I finished in 2:07:25 which wasn't what I was aiming for but was still a new PB, so I'm reasonably pleased with that. Robert was a few minutes quicker with 2:03:50.
