On what must have been the hottest day of the year, rode from work to Dunsfold (home of Top Gear) - between Ockley and Cranleigh seemed to be a sun trap, 32 degrees
Race started really fast and I was hanging on - I guess the sun had got to some who made a break on the first lap, and this formed the pattern of the race with breaks going and being brought back, pushing the average speed up to 26.2mph (faster than that days tour stage
My legs were screaming and breathing laboured, but gradually I settled down, and looked forward to the finish....60 riders with a tailwind bunch finish....positioning carefully on the last lap, set up nicely and put the power down in the last 200m to finish 2nd behind Craig Wilson who just seems to be that little bit too quick but very pleased nonetheless.
