SCCU 10/ ECCA 50

A pretty breezy weekend with times suffering as a result started early Saturday am for the SCCU 10 which runs along the extended dual carriageway part of the club run from Rusper roundabout towards Crawley and back. Fortunately the pouring rain had just about stopped by the time we rode although the roads were still pretty wet meaning a good deal of caution required on the roundabouts. 3 riders started:

Sunday am was the ECCA 50 on a course near Cambridge. Weather stayed dry for the event which was a miracle given the rest of the weekend. Started fairly still but wind picked up in the middle of event so headwind all the way back having not had much assistance on the way out. Two ACC riders:

I went through the first 25 miles in 57.30 and grovelled most of the way home. The HQ was about a mile before the finish and was sorely tempted to stop on the way past

Hi Rich,

I did not recognise you on the 10tt, I was marshalling on the big roundabout after the drag up from the start. 'orrible weather, but I think the guys who were off early got the best of the weather as it did not rain until the last few guys started to come through.

What I have to say though is tt starts at a stupid time in the morning, man I was up at 5am to stand on that corner, talk about crazy, my wife thinks I am a complete nutcase.

You wouldn't have recognised me as I wasn't trying desperately to hang onto your wheel. The pleasure of TTs is you can take them at your own pace and there's no getting dropped

I think the weather is worse for the marshalls than the riders you usually don't notice a bit of rain when you're riding it's the wind that can really get to you

It's not all early starts my next couple of TTs are 10.00 am and 5.00pm starts but the problem is traffic levels, if you ran an event at 9.00am on that course you'd have to stop at every roundabout and take your life in your hands at the turn. The advantage of an early start is that you can get home before the rest of the family get up so not so many complaints of all the time wasted cycling (at least if you don't head off to Goodwood a day too early! ).

Rich, when I think about that time it's amazing, almost 25mph for 2 hours! If only I could do that for even a 1/4 of the time.
