North Hampshire 25 16/8

On Bentley this afternoon with Steve. I'll put this down as a training ride  . Chat with Steve when I arrived as he was finishing his warm up as he was of quite a bit earlier than me. He said it was windy, he wasn't kidding.

I had a reasonable warm up and felt okay going to the start but it was windy, set off and it was okay to start with but hard work to the first turn. Quick back with the tail wind and it was really picking up by now. Turned back in to the wind and it was like riding in to a wall. At times I was going full bore just to hit 17mph! Never known it so windy there. Really struggled along to the turn with the average speed pathetic after the slog in to the wind. Around the turn and it was daft, six miles to home and after the early couple of lumps the final five miles were all done in the top two gears. I was doing 30mph for about three miles and only down to 28mph at worst.

Crazy return speed after such a slow journey out but couldn't make up any time lost.

Finished with 1:04:42 which is two minutes slower than I've ever gone here but never raced in such a strong headwind as that second leg in to it other than on the Isle of Wight. Crap time so put it down to training miles, didn't bother to check the results properly but plenty of slow times. Other that is than to see Steve had done a mid 1:01 which was excellent in the conditions if the wind was as strong early on, all those miles for the 24s paying dividends in strength for riding in to the wind. Tejvan won with 51:59 slipping through the wind with his pencil profile, cruised passed me like a slippery eel :) .

Conditions just as Andrew described for me as well with a leg bending second stretch into the wind. Despite trying to save something for the headwind section I still felt rough in the early miles but settled down as time went on. Managed to finish quite strongly hitting 36 mph a couple of times over the last few miles. Actual time 1:01:35.

It was horrible wasn't it, brilliant ride in that wind Steve. The strength you have from all those training miles paying off, hope you grab a float before the season finishes so you get the reward for it.

Sounds horrible.
I was supposed to be riding the a3crg 25 which had been rescheduled from May but saw the weather forecast and DNSed.

Sounds like a right grovel. Glad I didn`t enter now. Enjoyed the club run instead.

Well done you two.
