Brighton Mitre 25 26/10

Season finale on G25/93 course at Steyning. The first half to 15 miles is a sporting loop followed by a flat out and back.

A bit of a cock up as I'd gone for a spin to loosen my legs and drifted off in a daydream. Glanced at my watch and got a shock, then had to hammer it flat stick to get back to the start, arriving with 30 seconds to go and breathing out my backside.

Set off and thought I'd got away with it with Conall not catching me until the 7 mile mark. Then now on the A24 heading south in to a strong head wind and my dodgy start prep hit me as my legs fell off.

Grovelled along to the left turn at Washington at 12.5 miles and continued to suffer over the next 2 miles of lumps. Hit the flat bit and my legs came back to me and finished the final 10 quite strongly.

Is quite a tough course ( but also quite nice for variety) and can be a sod with a headwind on the A24 but was hoping for a 1:02. A combo of the naff start and legs falling off in the wind and this was never going to happen. Finished with 1:04:16.

Keith finished 5th with a great 55:52 just 2 second off Dave Dent. Wouter was third 2 seconds off Conall with 54:50. The remarkable Steve D won in a superb 54.06, just keeps getting better.
