By the way matt, i dont feel particularly great about the prospect of a 65mile slog following (hanging on) the 2nd cats on saturday, but i kinda feel obliged to ride given the circumstances. but should i abandon on saturday, a possibility of which im fairly sure is going to become harsh reality (again) i am going to be super motivated on the sunday... i think!

well my first proper race of the year and it wasn't too bad, but then again I spent most of it on the outside mid bunch, it was a big field with most people staying together so although the average speed was high very few were dropped, so the field never thinned out and almost all were together at the end. Lots of shouting throughout the race as rusty bunch riding skills were remembered, I had one scary moment when someone touched my back wheel, all I could think about was "Please not in my first race on my new bike!". There was a bad wind which was worst up the hill to the finish line so every lap we slowed to a crawl as the front hit the hill and wind, thankfully near the end the speed picked up but at the final sprint someone's chain came off in front of me so I lost the sprint for about 20th place  . I was surprised I kept with the bunch given the training I have/haven't done but then to sit up at the front and be in contension would take a higher fittness level than I had. Anyway I had a nice day on the bike, a ride out of 25 miles and back (another 25 miles) plus the race, my longest on the bike for a while. next week I'm marshalling at the ACC race so will be watching not racing

My computer counted 29 laps, average speed of 24.5 mph (need to check wheel calibration) and avergae heart rate of 165bpm.
