Technically, following the rules, YES, you should continue round the circuit. If the riders then pass you before you get back to the finish then you are 1 lap down.
However, in practice, Commissaires GENERALLY have a relaxed approach to the rule, provided your return, if against the flow of riding is NOT DANGEROUS.
