Well, thankfully I can't add to the tales from Chertsey of mass pile-ups, flying bikes and lost skin. Although my shoeplate did skid on the tiled floor in the toilets, which was bit of a scary moment.
I was the only agreeable in this race today, held on the H25/2 course in the Maidenhead/Marlow area. Starts at the top of a big hill on the A404 dual carriageway, down the hill then onto the A4 single carriageway. Out and back on there then back onto the A404 to the finish at the bottom of the hill.
The start position gives you a bit of a gift for the first couple of miles; I was doing 40mph for quite a while and topped out at 42.9 which is about where I spin out on my top gear. The A4 section is pretty flat but the surface leaves a lot to be desired, and all the bumps, road buzz and picking a line through the potholes slows things down quite a bit. Headwind on the way out today, which I think is preferable if there's wind about. A bit chilly too, so not the best of days.
Caught my two minute man at about 5 miles, three minute man at about halfway, and twenty seven minute (!) woman at 23 miles. And nobody caught me, which was nice.
58:14 which is a course PB, although I've only ridden the course once before. My fastest 25 this year, so heading in the right direction.
