Herne Hill Wed 20 June

Good night again at the track. For Bec CC at any rate. :?

An 'unknown distance' scratch started proceedings, won by Dom Hill with Keith 3rd. I used it as a warm up for the novice 6-lap points race which was next on the agenda....but it was not to be and I got blown out the back on first lap and rode round on my own trying not to fume too visibly. A novice race! What was I doing???

Keith won the AB devil, much to everyone's surprise as he usually gets spat out of the devil fairly early on.

My poor performance in the points race paid dividends in the novice 8 lap block handicap as I got set off with two other slowish riders. We worked well together and when the faster novices caught us in the final lap I hung on for a 4th place.

Few other races I can't really remember then a 3-lap dash where one of the faster novices decided to lead from the off. I hung onto his wheel, waiting for everyone to fly past on the final bend....but they never really came. One guy came past early on and the two of them were away and to my surprise I was 'sprinting' for third....and then just on the line some swine snicked in front of me.

Stayed behind after the 20km scratch (Dom Hill 2nd, Keith 3rd) to practice getting out of the saddle...which should help me to change pace a bit better next week.

Be good to see some more Agreeable faces.....

I think I would come if I could find myself a decent retro track bike for not too much, but I really didn't enjoy much riding HH with the rental bikes they have there.

When was that Sylv? They've got new rental bikes this year which are better than the old ones.

Really? Yes it was a couple years ago at least. The tires were super thick, saddles horribly uncomfortable (this from someone who rides on full carbon saddles), gearing wrong, and general state pretty poor.

I remember once the bars weren't centerred in the stem, so I took to do it myself - the old man there went mad at me! :-)

Must have a go again then.
