Thruxton 20 March

Raced today with David and Luke up at Thruxton. To say that the wind was a slight hinderance would be a understatement. It was blowing a gale and then some, and sods law the wind would be blowing on the uphill section straight into the riders.

14 laps of trying to hide in the right place. Had a couple of gos off the front but as most people found out during the race it was near enough impossible to stay away from the peleton once onto the headwind.

We tried to get away on the second to last lap, but again the peleton were able to stay with us.

Don't know what the results are yet but will post them once get them in. None of us placed anywhere impressive. Only 45km race so not too tired, maybe should have done more work in the race.

What Marek has not mentioned was his impressive solo break on the first lap. In fact I think it started in the pit lane on the way out. Mind you there were two female riders already off the front at this stage therefore competitve insitinct had probably already taken over.

Overall I would say Thruxton was diappointing in this weather as it is so exposed. Although a number of breaks took place, no-one showed any intention of working together to maintain a gap with the bunch. Also the race was not long enough to make the journey worthwhile. You live and learn.

Can only look forward to Lewes next week...
