This event was changed from the Bentley bypass to the A4 at Aldermaston to my dismay. Although I arrived in plenty of time I felt somewhat stressed having negotiated the M25 and M3, M4 roadworks.
A fierce headwind on the outward half but a very nice tailwind coming home made it almost enjoyable.
After around 7miles I was joined by an some unwelcomed guests in a Suburu who pulled up beside me and started abusing and catcalling. Initialling I ignored them but then a can of drink was thrown at me which luckily missed but being a graduate of the South London charm school I told them to F***k Off or I`d rip their heads off, these tossers thought this was hilarious and roared off, only too annoy 3 or 4 others riders along the way.
About 2 miles further into my ride I was overtaken by a campervan, I thought lovelly I`ll draft all the way to the finish here.
But the van had other ideas turning right with little indication, I had to swerve to miss his rear and then swerve to the right to miss the kerb, slowing me down to a near stop and it`s hard to turn a big gear from a near standing start.
Serves me right in trying to gain an unfair advantage.
Finished with 25:50 I think which was alright considering.
Tamar and Paul won the tandem creeping under 22min well done to them.
130 mile round trip to ride 10 miles must be mad or what?
