Robert and I had a long drive yesterday up to Derbyshire for the BDCA 100 mile time trial. This is up near Alton Towers and is ridden along the A50 and a couple of smaller roads.
The weather was nice and sunny, quite hot and there there was a 10-12 mph wind blowing but mainly across the course. Fairly flat and very smooth road very similar to the E2 course near Cambridge although not exposed.
Robert was off 2 minutes behind and luckily they let us off fairly early in the afternoon so we didn't finish too late in the evening.
For the first lap I really concentrated on keeping the cadence in the mid 90's and drinking plenty and eating some enery bars and gels, it seemed to take me a while to get going and between 35-50 miles was finding it quite tough.
On the second lap I felt much better and really got into a good rhythm, the next 30 miles were a breeze and onto the final lap I just tried to hold on and not fade too much.
Could see the average was just a tad low for getting under 4 hours even so I managed to PB by over 5 minutes, happy with my ride and everythings moving in the right direction.
When I finished I was completely covered in white salty deposits from all the sweat and had to have a real good was in the toilets to get cleaned up.
