SCRL - Bletchingly 19 July

Postby Hal » Sun Jul 19, 2009 7:28 pm

I have been suffering from Tendonitis since riding Lands End John o Groats last month and although it was ok for the RAS in Wales after the club run last week it was really sore.

I had entered this race so decided to go along and see how my achillies held up.

A pretty small field of 40 or 50 starters. Pace was ok to and on the first couple of laps I was feeling very comfortable in the bunch and made a couple of unsucessful attempts to get in a break. After 1 lap my ankle was twinging a bit but noting serious. After 2 laps it t was feeling less good. On the 3rd lap I decided to pull out and rest before doing any further damage :(

A bit of a shame as I have been riding quite stongly lately.

This will probably be my last race for the season as I think I probably need at least a month or two minimum to heal. So a sad day and a unspectacular end to the season. :(

Don't be sad, Hal, you deserve a rest after your great End-to-End. Come out and support the lads in the ECCA 12 hour in gentle Essex-Cambridgeshire!

I wondered what happened to you after our suicide break as you seemed to be going well. I nearly went out the back after that going through Bletchingly.
It was a funny race really as there didn't seem to be that many attacks, but the bunch gradually shrunk as people dropped off on the climbs.
I didn't realise you just did the End to End. No wonder you're going well.

well done for giving it a try Hal, I had half decided to do it but the prospect of rain during the race put me off, plus I haven't done that distance for a while now !! (as my riding lately has been my short commute, turbo, CP and 2 hour rides).

I think it must have been mainly dry for you though, as I went for a ride out to Hever via Crowhurst,, tanbridge etc in the morning and only got really wet on the return leg home going up CP hill.

Sorry to here about your heel.
