Adam got 4th, again, think he's getting fed up of that at CP. No Addiscombe in either top 10 unfortunately.
I really enjoyed last night.
A big thank you to all the marshals that turned out, which allowed me to don my retro jersey and race. Thanks for all the shouts on the way round too, helps numb the pain a touch
. A good rally of troops racing as well for the final Palace of the season. Sylv in the E/1/2 with Adam, and Serge, Kieran, Gavin, Matt, and myself in the 3/4s.
I started right up the front to give myself some hill slippage room but didn't drop too many places in the early laps and was able to move back up a few over the top and along the top. The thing about being a tester is I can be a bit of a one paced pony, this means that I sometimes struggle with the up, down pace at CP but like yesterday when there is a slight easing at the top of the hill I end up going a bit quicker and can slide up a few places I've lost on the climb.
I held the bunch for about 10 laps, having seen Serge and Kieran come past me on the hill a couple of laps earlier I just couldn't grab their wheels. I was going quite well though so didn't drop off much and kept going at a reasonable pace. After a while, and passing other dropped riders, I was joined by Matt and a couple of others. We rode as a 4 for a few laps and then they all suddenly disappeared. This left me on my tod for a while as I kept plowing round, still going at the same pace and catching the odd soul starting to struggle.
After a little bit 2 of those I'd dropped rejoined me along with another couple. They'd obviously got a second wind as they were going a bit better than I was at the time as I'd just started to suffer a bit on the hill as the repetition started to kick in. I managed to grab a wheel and sat on for a few laps and then we started riding as a group. After my little breather I felt fairly refreshed again. They were a bit stronger than me on the hill so I was having to dig in a bit here but I was quicker on the flat and downhill, particularly the bottom bend where they were taking it way too easy. I carried on until the end riding with that group, as although I could probably have pulled away between the hairpin and the base of the hill they'd have reeled me back in on the hill every lap, so I finished with a combo of struggle a bit on the hill get the cigar out for the rest of the lap
.
We avoided getting lapped and I had a good race. The evening was topped off with a fine pint of bitter at the pub at the top of the hill with a number of Agreeables. A fine call by Tamar, and we were joined there by a few others celebrating their final Palace race of the season.
A few pics my Dad managed to grab from his marshaling point in the gloom of the trees at the base of the hill.
