A sucessful days racing at Chertsey for ACC.
In the 4th cats we had about 9 riders, the Yellow presence was amazing, everywhere you looked there were Agreeables.
In the 4ths we had a couple of casualties ie punctures, just when the peloton passed me I cheered "come on Addiscome" then I heard a loud BANG Oh no it was a man in Yellow with a blow out.
One of Jons friends in his first race got pushed off the track on a corner and wiped out, he had a bloody knee and hand but soon repaired the bars and got straight back into the action.
In the 4ths we had Paul H, Jon(man in green) and myself, also Marek was there and Simon(hulk legs)
We all had a plan to do a crazy Kamikaze attact from the gun, thats exatctly what we did we shot off and I think one or two other were present for the ride with us three.
Jon accelerated so hard he almost dropped his team mates, but unfortunatly we were caught after a lap.
It was a hot windless day, the track was fairly flatish with no real hills to aid a breakaway so it didn't bode well for our constant attacks.
Paul Jon and me were constantly gunning off the front to breakaway but is was appearing like a futile business today as one big Fit For guy kept strongly chasing down every break almost single handedly.
6 laps to go I decided to sit in a little to get some power into my sprinting legs, but Jon kept pushing hard off the front, at one stage he was in a 2 man break and dropped the other guy and even continued alone for a whole lap
2 laps to go Paul said we should stick with the Strong looking Fit For rider to tow us in for a lead out man
Last lap the pace upped and the Peloton strung out, I positioned myslf behind this guy in abou 4th or 5th position.
2 Dynamo's came through looking good I ditched Fit For just as he blew snuck in behind them and got low into a tuck.
Sweeping fast downhill round the last corner I was 4th man Jon was there too, we were in a perfect sprinting position
The speed was really cranking up I was in top gear really going still had enough strength for a good sprint, I got a little boxed but not too bad touched a couple of bars beside me then gunned.
Jon was just ahead dicing with a Dynamo and I was in the mix, didn't quite get the lead out man right as he almost lead ,me down a dead end
As I crossed the line Hulk Legs was just beside me and I didn't even notice Jon had gone and done it, probably because he wasn't in his Addiscombe top:wink:
Jon won the sprint, it was close he wasn't sure if he was 1st or 2nd but our Elmers End Chain Gang 4th cat Dulwich Mates confirmed Jon had got it
I was happy to be up there in my first real sprint, I was about 7th or so but didn't really notice as my head was down and I wasn't looking up.
Paul was a bit frustrated that the breaks weren't happening today and there were no hills, but he rode actively during the race, even so we had a Team result!
