bit of an anti climax sylv...

i hit a pothole about 3.5 miles into the first lap and thought it was all ok...for the next half mile i thought i could hear a hissing noise but thought it was someone else, then i hit another hole and then realised 'sh*t thats my rim' so i looked down and had a puncture on my from wheel.

luckily i had my tyre levers on me so i stuffed the wheel with grass and rolled back down a big hill for about a mile or so before coming to a bunch of marshals.

after a while matt ives turned up in his van. it turned out he had puncture just after me, but the other side of the hill, he had walked allll the way back to the HQ

we drove over to the finish line to watch the rest of the race. pual and jon did well, jon got 8th place, but after doing alot of work chasing a break with that fit for bloke in it from chertsey, and i think paul got 11th or 12th.

yep...big anti climax for me.
I felt good today, but just after I saw Stu pull over I felt my back tyre go flat. Didn't even complete one lap. I actually punctured at the furthest point from HQ, so had a long walk back in my socks during which I took every opportunity to swear at inanimate objects.
Paul and Jon seemed strong and were riding near the front for most of the race. I think Paul lost a bit on the final hill and Jon cooked himself trying to bring back Mr Fit-For ,who is now thankfully a 2nd cat.

John got in a break with the Big Fit-For guy which only got pulled back as the other Fit-For guy half killed himself to chase it down (he then got dropped). When the Fit-For guy was on his last legs, I sprinted from the bunch up the long Hill and tried to join John. I wasnt far from them at the top of the Hill and then John did a turn at the front and they started pulling away again. I then blew completely and got sucked back into the bunch.

I was in a reasonable position at the end but my legs were dead and finished outside of the points. John came 8th but that was due to the fact that he had to chase down the break.

It wasnt my best race - I think I have lost some fitness or everybody else has got better or probably a combination of the both.

Hard luck guys, remember Paul, you will have good days and bad days, cannot feel strong in every race. I have learnt that the hard way. Maybe you need a rest, but I would not beat yourself up about it. May see you at Kitsmead Lane on Thursday night if I can get away from work on time.

Cheers

Conti GP4000.
Both mine a Stu's were impact punctures, so it wasn't really the tyres fault, more the fault of hitting potholes at high speed, I think

That circuit must be doomed, I went down a huge pothole some years back, and dented a pair of Shamals.

Lucky they were Campag  , otherwise they would have broken :?:

[quote]That circuit must be doomed,
the road surface was really bad in places...I'm surprised there weren't more punctures
