rusper road race

Postby Stu Merckx Man » Sun Sep 09, 2007 7:07 pm

started off great.

nice small peleton, feeling strong, and it was perfect weather.

i tried getting in breaks from the go but we were always pulled back very quickely. then a break did go with a guy from norward paragon and kingston wheelers. and, as they were the most dominent forces in the pack they soon got a good lead.

i did my fair shair of chasing and of trying to attack and bridge the gap.

then about 12 miles i tried to break away again up a hill , but as soon has i started to sprint away my chain snapped  .

this left me with a very long walk back to HQ

ah well, theres always next week...

Oh thats a shame. Norwood were looking to get Nigel Carpenter in for a hat trick, he has won Rusper the last two years on the trot therefore I was not too surprised to hear they were bossing the race. Do you know who won?

I did the earlier race and felt quite good, did a lap on my own earlier on in the race but no one was game to come and play and I got eaten by the pack just before the hill.

Did not contest the sprint today, but enjoyed the race.

Cheers

Wondered why I didn't see you - on the return ride from the SCCU 25, I saw the bunch go through, but no ACC rider there

Hard luck.

BTW, did the chain actually break - the metal snap, or did one of the joining rivets fail :?:

Don't worry Stu you can learn from this mishap for the future.

Always check your bike over well before a race especially the chain, when you clean it, this is the component with the most force going through it.

I remember earlier this year turning up at the Palace and there was a slight ticking noise down from my pedal/ crank area every 2 and a half revolutions, I checked the chain and noticed one of the connecting links had sheared one side.

Luckily for me I noticed this before the race and removed the offending link straight away otherwise I also would have DNF'd.

I've never had a chain break (no jokes about the lack of strength thanks)

I have noticed that when people say they "broke" a chain, what they really mean is the didn't put it together properly in the first place

I used to know a pro mountainbiker (no names, no pack-drill, but used to race for Raliegh) who couldn't stand the idea of a poor finish. He used to carry a chain tool in his back pocket, and if he wasn't riding well, it was surprising just how often his chain broke just out of sight of the finish area on the second to last lap.

Did you see the results Stu, told you Nigel was going for a hat trick, well he got it. That is pretty impressive.

Cheers
